makz survives the apocalypse

I got my hands on the North American DVD release of FLCL recently, thanks to the free rental service offered by the Alamo Theater in DTLA.

I had been trying to remember who had localized it, and it seems the problem I had been having was a result of the answer being unexpected — Production I.G. themselves apparently had an American branch with distribution handled by Nyo Nyo Nyo Nyo Nyo~, Broccoli nyo~. Or more specifically, its American incarnation, AnimeGamers, a company that would not survive long enough to allow me to make a holy pilgrimage to visit them upon moving to California. (Alas, alack.)

Anyway, you know what's cool about NA-region DVD releases of anime from around this era? They often have region-exclusive directors' commentaries on them.
